My own Experience - The American Express® Preferred Rewards Gold Card was the very first credit card that i obtained out of college. One reason why as to why I got the card was that the business I worked for gave me a corporate card (from American Express of course). Any kind of travel or entertaiinment spending that i put on the corporate card gained me Regular membership Reward Points. Therefore I thought that it was a good idea to obtain a personal card in order to generate more points.

Although it comes with an annual fee for the card, a few things i loved in regards to the card is that the points that i generate can be used to fly on several airline carriers. Back then, the way to do it would have been to transfer points into air miles. These days, American Express has their own travel site (that is in fact driven through Travelocity) where you can arrange your travel and you may either pay by means of cash or use your points. When I was comparing the actual reward program to other individuals, it had become pretty clear that Amex has more partners within their program compared to some other reward programs.

Outcome - There are many reward credit cards available with no annual fee. However, none will have the sheer number of different rewards that are available through the Membership Rewards program. Frequent flyers who’re members of a few programs and people who desire to benefit from the perks that come with this card will discover the American Express (R) Preferred Rewards Gold Card appealing.

There is also the element of prestige associated with this particular card.
